Two of Canada’s most innovative independent companies, Modern Times Stage Company and Aluna Theatre, join forces to present Federico García Lorca’s timeless classic of 20th century theatre, Blood Wedding (Bodas de Sangre). The production is part of Buddies in Bad Times Theatre’s season, running March 11-29, 2015.

Modern Times’ Artistic Director Soheil Parsa, renowned for his unique interpretations of the classics (Macbeth, Waiting for Godot, The Chairs, The Lesson), will direct and choreograph a rarely produced translation of Blood Wedding by Langston Hughes. His 12 person ensemble includes Aluna Theatre’s Dora award-winning Artistic Director Beatriz Pizano, Bahareh Yaraghi, Carlos Gonzalez-Vio, Derek Kwan, Sochi Fried and Jani Lauzon.

The design team includes Trevor Schwellnus (Scenographer), Thomas Ryder Payne (Sound Design and Composition) and Angela Thomas (Costumes), who have all received Dora nominations and awards for their previous collaborations with Parsa.

Blood Wedding recounts a family vendetta coming to a boil when a bride-to-be runs away with the son of the enemy. As the pair flee the oppressing forces of their family’s histories, death pursues them through the thick of the forest, under the light of the moon. Their ill-fated romance sparks a poetic exploration of the conflict between desire and social convention.

The ensemble includes: Lara Arabian, Steven Bush, Sochi Fried, Carlos Gonzalez-Vio, Mina James, Derek Kwan, Jani Lauzon, Sebastian Marziali, Liz Peterson, Beatriz Pizano, Chiamaka G. Ugwu and Bahareh Yaraghi  Scenogrpaher, and Trevor Schwellnus
